Blue Crayon in Gray Circle Blind/Visually Impaired (BVI)

NLSEC is committed to providing comprehensive services to students who are blind or visually impaired from ages birth-22 for Member Districts. Some of these services include:

  • Special Education Assessments
  • Specialized instruction, including Braille
  • Assistive Technology support and training
  • Consultation
  • Inservice Training
  • Assistance with classroom adaptations/modifications

Early Childhood Special Education Resources

  • For Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) resources, there is an
Observation and Interview Form (pdf) that can be completed by an ESCE teacher to help determine if a referral for vision services is needed.

Referral Process

  • To initiate the referral process, a current medical report from an Ophthalmologist will be required to determine if your student meets the medical criteria for blind/visually impaired. If you have any questions or concerns about your student possibly having a visual impairment, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
